Dallas Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith was voted as No. 9 on the all-time list of most valuable draft picks. The fan voting is conducted by NFL.com.
The Emmit Smith pick was more luck than skill for the Cowboys. First off, they forfeited the first pick in the draft after taking a QB that did not pan out in the previous year's supplemental draft; if they had been selecting first, they would undoubtedly have taken RB Blair Thomas, who was ranked on their board ahead of Smith, who actually was selected with the #2 pick and who was a BUST. Then they pursued the strategy of trying to trade up ... for LB James Francis. When that failed they finally noticed that their #2 ranked RB was falling & traded up a few spots to get Smith.
There were so many Cowboy draft picks that attested to their drafting skills than this: Roger Staubach, Bob Lilly, Mel Renfro, Bob Hays, Tony Dorsett, Herschel Walker, Rayfield Wright, Larry Allen. The voters in this poll were idiots with extremely short memories!
No matter what the argument is, the result has proved that Emmitt Smith is the best player and people love him and happy to wear emmitt smith jersey.
