Utah Jazz signed veteran Francisco Elson officially
The Utah Jazz general manager Kevin O’Connor announced today that the team has signed free-agent center Francisco Elson in indiana pacers jersey. The team announced Wednesday they agreed to a contract with veteran center Francisco Elson in pacers jerseys. Terms of the contract were not disclosed, per team policy.
Elson (7-0, 240, California) in reggie miller jersey owns career averages of 3.9 points and 3.8 rebounds over seven NBA seasons with Denver, San Antonio, Seattle, Milwaukee and Philadelphia. Elson in miami heat jersey has also appeared in 30 playoff games (10 starts), averaging 2.9 points and 2.8 rebounds. Elson’s best statistical season came in 2006-07 with San Antonio, when he appeared in 70 games (41 starts), averaging 5.0 points and 4.8 rebounds in 19.0 minutes. With starting center Mehmet Okur in lebron james jersey expected to be out until at least December, Elson in dwyane wade jersey will help shore up the middle for the Jazz. Elson joins new Jazzman Al Jefferson in chris bosh jersey and Mehmet Okur in milwaukee bucks jersey, who is coming off a season-ending injury (torn Achilles tendon in bucks jerseys) as centers on the Jazz roster. Elson, 34, had long been eyed by the Jazz as a reliable, defensive-minded backup for Okur. Utah's starting center is recovering from Achilles’ tendon surgery, and faces an uncertain timetable for his return.
Calvin Andrews, Elson's agent, recently referred to his client as being in incredible shape and possessing the agile body of a 28-year-old. That body came into play Tuesday, when Elson took and passed a physical, allowing the sides to move ahead with the long-planned deal. Elson is expected to contribute 10-15 minutes per game, solidifying Utah's post game and spreading defenses with his mid-range shooting. His addition also provides the Jazz with a reliable backup center, should the team not re-sign Kyrylo Fesenko. In one game, Elson committed a hard foul on the Timberwolves' Kevin Garnett. Later, Garnett punched Elson in the groin. Elson's response was to call Garnett "gay," which immediately created a controversy. Elson later apologized to the gay and lesbian community in Denver.
So the speculation was true. His agent went on to say via tribjazz that he has the body of a 28-year old despite being 34. The biggest question is what impact will this have on Fesenko and Evans? I think this is more of an insurance policy with Memo being out early. I think Fess and Evans in brandon jennings jersey still get signed. Evans in new jersey nets jersey will be a bit more versatile and can play another position, if he gets any PT at all. I'm not moved either way with this signing. We have a 7 footer that may or may not be able to score and may or may not be able to block shots. If we're really depending on this signing to compete, then we're in trouble. Terms won't be disclosed officially, but I can't imagine it being for more than the league minimum and 2 years. With that said, welcome to the Jazz if the physical works out.
Personally, I was hoping that the Jazz would just re-sign Fesenko and let him get solid backup minutes behind Jefferson (I imagine Jefferson playing around 28 mins at C and 10 or so at PF leaving a good 20 mins for Fes) Fesenko showed promise. However, Elson in nets jerseys probably will give similar production (though lacking the potential Fes could possibly reach) Just a though .what if Elson is meant to be a one year backup because the Jazz front office believe they have a pretty good shot at bringing in Ante Tomic next year? Fes, Elson, Okur, Tomic and Jefferson would be a bit much at C.temporarily bringing in Elson and not re-signing Fes might mean Tomic will come next offseason probably a far out hope, but it’d be nice.
